Environmental Impact Measurement (EIM), a method and software platform developed by Jeanologia, a supplier for sustainable garment machinery. EIM measures the environmental impact in four categories: water, chemicals, and energy needed to finish a garment, and worker impact. It helps us to improve the environmental impact of our denims. We are working towards using EIM for all our denim in our effort to reduce environmental impacts. You can find the available EIM score on the hangtags of our denims.

To calculate the EIM score, the following four different categories are taken into account:

1. Water Consumption

The total water consumption is the sum of the amount of water used in each step in the finishing process.

2. Energy Consumption

The total energy consumed during the finishing process is the sum of energy consumed in every step of the finishing process.

3. Chemical Impact

Every chemical is given an EIM Chemical Impact Score, based on comparison with industry standards (ZDHC MRSL conformance level).

4. Workers' Health

A score is given, based on the impact on worker’s health, operations have during the finishing process of a garment.

After assessing the above 4 categories, the EIM score is defined, and garments can be classified as low, medium, or high impact. Some of our denim suppliers already work with the EIM software by Jeanologia, and together with them we strive to improve our score by improving our processes. For suppliers that don’t use EIM yet, we’re looking into possibilities to include it in their ways of working.
