FC CARE

Make these rules your mantra

OK, this probably isn't your first pair of leather shoes or clothes with washing instructions. But leather is a natural product and like all natural products, it needs to be looked after properly. So before wearing your Fabienne Chapot product, read these tips to ensure that your new Fabienne Chapot purchase stays looking fresh and fabulous. Thank us later!

Our leathers

We use the following premium leathers:

Soave
Suede
Python leather
Metallic leather (foils)

 How to look after leather

Long live technology, because now we keep leather and suede soft, supple and dirt-repellent with a bottle. The geniuses at Collonil are responsible for Nanopro, an invisible layer that makes suede and leather dirt and moisture-repellent. We therefore advise you to spray your Fabienne Chapot product before use and then monthly with Collonil Nanopro protector spray. You can buy Collonil from high-end shoe shops and in the webshop www.collonil.com. Follow the instructions for the best result.

Note: metallic leather products do not respond well to the spray, so we do not recommend the spray for these leathers.

Snakeskin

Exotic types go wild for our buttery soft snakeskin. It might feel slightly fragile, but it is actually robust for our bags and leather accessories. The more you wear it, the better the leather looks and the deeper the colour becomes. That's completely normal. Use a special spray for snakeskin to keep the leather dirt-repellent and buttery soft.

 Metallic leathers

Metallics do not need to be sprayed because they are naturally dirt-repellent. All you need for metallics is a damp cloth.

 Pure nature

Natural is best, so we do not use chemical or scouring agents. However, we do use strongly pigmented dye to colour our leather. This means there may be some colour transfer when you first wear it. How to prevent that? Use a protector spray. UV rays can cause the colours to fade, so try to limit exposure to direct sunlight. Leather is a truly natural product, so the more you wear it, the better it becomes. This gives your FC item a unique allure. Is it time for a break? Always store your FC item in the accompanying dust bag!

 Cleaning

Wine stain, rain or an accident at a festival? Don't panic! Here's the solution:

Wet leather: take a clean towel and pat your leather item dry. Hang it up on a clothes hanger and leave to dry. Your hair dryer causes enough damage to your hair, so keep it away from your accessories!

Stains: got a stain on leather or suede?  Our #1 product is Collonil Classic - Clean and Care. For other types of leather, a damp cloth is sufficient.

 Guarantee

We (totally) believe in our products, so when you buy any FC shoes, bags or accessories, you receive a one-year guarantee.

 Our fabrics

We use the following high-quality fabrics:

Cotton
Wool
Baby Alpaca
Silk
Cashmere
Cupro
Modal
Viscose
Crepe Viscose
Polyester
Polyamide
Acrylic
Nylon

 Cotton

Always busy? Then fall in love with this natural, soft, breathable fabric. Because it can withstand high temperatures, you can throw your cotton in the washing machine and tumble dryer without worrying. For a fresh look, give it a quick iron.

Wool

Fact: wool is not just for winter. Our wools are primarily made from shorn sheep's wool. Wool is breathable, stretches and doesn't retain bad odours - hello, camp fire. But don't get it too hot, because then it will shrink! Wash by hand or at a low temperature (wool wash programme) and dry flat.

 Baby Alpaca

Baby alpaca wool is the wool from the first shearing, so not from baby alpacas :). It feels super soft against the skin and is lanoline-free, making it hypoallergenic. Its self-cleaning ability means that airing it is often enough. We recommend washing it as infrequently as possible.

Silk

Silk is a high-quality natural fibre. Silk is both strong and elastic and feels cool in hot weather and warm in cold weather. It is best to wash it as infrequently as possible and if necessary to wash by hand or dry clean.

 Cashmere

Cashmere is extremely light, soft and long-wearing with good heat-insulating properties. This is the most luxurious fabric there is. Its self-cleaning ability means that airing it is often enough. We recommend washing it as infrequently as possible.

 Cupro

Cupro is a high-quality natural product. It is breathable, like cotton, feels beautifully supple and resembles silk with a soft sheen. It is made by treating cellulose fibres with salt. It is best to wash cupro by hand, iron on a low heat and do not tumble dry.

 Modal

Modal is a natural plant material made from wood pulp from beech trees. It is a variant of viscose and feels soft and very comfortable. Furthermore, modal clothing is very strong, is breathable and drapes beautifully. Dyeing modal is much easier (and thus more sustainable) than cotton. Modal garments wash better and keep their colour longer than cotton, for example.

 Viscose

Forget tree hugging, we prefer to hug this smart fabric made from trees! Viscose is also called synthetic silk and is a semi-natural fabric made from chemically treated natural fibres. Wash inside out by hand (or on a wool programme).

 Crepe Viscose

Another smart fabric made from chemically treated natural fibres. This is the younger brother of cotton in terms of look and feel, but 100x smarter. Crepe refers to the way in which this fabric is woven.

 Polyester

Modern polyester needs very little care. It is ultra strong, light-absorbing, does not crease, is colour-fast and keeps its shape. Throw polyester in the washing machine, but don't use tumble dryers or irons.

 Polyamide

Polyamide is the elastic sister of polyester. It is strong yet soft and is often used in sportswear because of its elastic, breathable and colour-fast properties. Wash at a low temperature. And don't use tumble dryers or irons!

 Acrylic

Acrylic versus wool. All the advantages, none of the disadvantages! Acryl is a soft, warm, luxurious material which is great in winter. Probably invented at the same time as the washing machine because, with a drop of fabric conditioner, the two are made for each other.

 Nylon

Forget your tights, because nylon is mainly found in your jackets and anoraks. Some of the good properties: dries fast, heat, water, tear and crease-resistant, is fine in the washing machine and even in the tumble dryer.
